Late blight is an infection of potatoes, tomatoes, and other crops that reduces yield, and in some cases can cause a complete crop failure. Innatrix has identified peptides, which are short proteins, that interfere with the ability of the late blight pathogen to infect plants. The peptides are designed to interact with specific molecular targets that we have chosen in the pathogen. When the peptides are sprayed on leaves, the plants are protected from infection. The peptides are nontoxic and biodegradable, making them safe for farmers to use. Through a combination of computational protein modelling and laboratory assays, we continue to improve our peptides and expand the range of pathogens they protect against.
